Google Play Billing Library 8 deadline: dates, extension and version 9

Google Play requires Billing Library version 8 or later for new apps and app updates from August 31, 2026, with an extension available until November 1, 2026. This page has the version table from Google, what Billing Library 9 removes, and the order we migrate in.

The page banner says Billing Library 8 or later is required by August 31, 2026. The FAQ table puts that date on version 7. Both mean a version 7 build is not accepted after the deadline without the extension. Check the Play Console for the status of your own app.

What Billing Library 9 removes

The migration guide lists these previously deprecated APIs as removed, with their replacements.

enablePendingPurchases() without parameters

Play Store blocked by the system

How we migrate

  1. 1. Find the library version in the release you ship

    Look for com.android.billingclient:billing in the app dependencies, including any wrapper plugin that bundles it.

  2. 2. Replace the removed APIs

    Use the replacement column above. Most work is moving SkuDetails calls to ProductDetails.

  3. 3. Handle the new response codes

    Add the new sub-response codes to the purchase listener and test the blocked-Play-Store case.

  4. 4. Test purchases, restores and pending states

    Run a purchase, a subscription renewal and a restore against the internal test track before you release.

  5. 5. Release and watch Play Console

    Ship the update, then confirm in Play Console that the app is accepted with the new library.

Can I still use Billing Library 7?

Not for new apps and updates after August 31, 2026, unless you request the extension to November 1, 2026.

What is the next Billing Library deadline?

August 31, 2027 for version 8, with an extension to November 1, 2027.

Do I have to move to Billing Library 9?

The FAQ table does not set a deadline for version 9 before August 31, 2028. Version 9 removes APIs that were deprecated in 7 and 8, so apps that still use them must change code to adopt it.
