03What this means for your app
After end of life the Python core team no longer provides fixes for that branch, including security fixes. An app on 3.10 keeps running, but a future vulnerability in the interpreter will not get a patch for it.
The nearest sensible target depends on your dependencies. Python 3.11 is the oldest branch still supported, with end of life in October 2027, so it is a short runway. Python 3.13 and 3.14 give you until 2029 and 2030 on the scheduled dates.
04What to check
- Find the Python version in production, CI, the Dockerfile and any serverless runtime setting.
- If it is 3.10 or 3.9, schedule the upgrade now.
- Check each dependency in requirements or pyproject for support of the target version.
- Run the tests on the new version before changing production.
- Pick a target with several years left, not the oldest supported branch.
